THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BEET

    Beet is a nutritious food which is popular for cooking various dishes for its more delightful taste. It is an enormous source of several vitamins and minerals.
    Beet is red tapered root of very short plant known as Beta vulgaris which belongs to the family of Chenopodiaceae.

  • Beet root provide low calorie and no cholesterol to help to stay away several heart problems and make the heart fit. It consists of remarkable amount of dietary fiber, several anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins.
  • Beet root is a good source of phytochemical compound named glycine betaine. It help to reduce the homocysteine level in blood. Homocysteine is a toxic metabolite help in the formation of atherosclerotic -plaque; thus help in clotting of platelet. The homocysteine in high level in blood also lead to various cardiovascular diseases, stroke, coronary heart diseases.
  • The root is a good source of folates which are important for the biosynthesis of DNA of cells and also cure the fallopian tube infection in case of expected mother.       
  • Fresh beet root contains sufficient amount of vitamin C which is an excellent antioxidants. It help to keep away oxygen free radical substances from body; thus prevent the risk of cancer.
  • Beet contains several flavonoid,carotenoid anti-oxidants. It is also great source of vitamin A which is essential for the maintenance of the mucous membrane and to promote the eye power. The flavonoid content is reported to prevent the development of carcinogens specially of lung cancer and oral cancer.It is also rich in several vitamins B complex compound like niacin, panthothenic acid etc.

  • Additionally it contains the high level of potassium help to control the normal heart rate and the development of various cell metabolism.
