ALOE VERA

THE BENEFITS OF ALOE VERA

     Almost all the people know the aloe vera as Immortality plant because of it's wide usage for various purposes. It is extensively used since ancient period. 
     Aloes are the dried juice of the leaves of Aloe barbadensis, known as Curacao aloes. It also consists of the juice of Aloe perryi, known as Socotrine aloes. Apart from those, another type of aloe is found such as Aloe africana, Aloe spicata. They are also known as Cape aloes. They belongs to the family of Liliaceae.

     All the aloe varieties are rich source of anthraquinone glycosides. The active constituent of aloe is aloin which is a mixture of glucosides. Aloe is packed with vitamin A, several vitamin B component (vit. B1, B2, B6), vitamin C, vitamin E, folic acid and niacin. A few minerals found in aloe are potassium, magnesium, iron, sodium etc. Aloe vera is also named as miracle plant or magical plant because of hugely usage of its constituents for the various medicinal purposes.
  • Aloe is used as purgative. It effects mainly on colon. It has strong purgative action in all crude drugs containing anthracene glycosidal content. To counter effect the gripping action, it is choose to be given with carminatives.
  • Aloe gel is formed in inner parenchymal cells of the aloe leaves is slightly viscous and clear liquid. During collection it should not get contaminated with aloe juice. such aloe gel is used in topical therapeutic applications and also many cosmetic products. The gel possesses good moisturizing properties on skin. 
  • Aloe gel exerts anti-inflammatory property due to the presence of chemical contents like salicylates, carboxypepetidase, magnesium lactate. The polysaccharide and sugar content have the role for hydrocoloid dressing and also as bactericides. Aloe gel also helps to remove the dead tissue due to its Aloctine.
  • Only fresh aloe gel is believe to have an important role in the  treatment of burns and wounds.
  • Aloe gel is used in many skin care products because of its anti-wrinkle properties.
  • Aloe gel is useful in case of constipation. It helps to improve the bowel motility. The remarkable plant is found to help to promote the digestion.
